En contrastant l’idée du corps « ouvert » à celle du corps « fermé », Lynch critique les lectures et représentations traditionnelles du corps infantile en tant que site de l’innocence, situant plutôt ce corps au centre d’une suite infinie de signes horrifiants et stupéfiants.
